Chiropractic treatment begins with the premise that the human body is inherently able to heal itself. The human spine is made up of 7 cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae, 5 lumbar vertebrae and the sacrum with coccyx. At times, injuries described as subluxations occur that affect the body’s health. A subluxation is a partial dislocation or misalignment of one or more vertebra at any level in the spine and joint.
This vertebral subluxation can decrease the function of the nerve and interfere with the communication between the brain and every part of the body, because the nervous system controls all aspects of the body. As a result, early degeneration of disc and spine, abnormal wear and tear of the joint, muscular pain with tension, and decreased range of motion will occur.
Dr. Park is chiropractic physician who is trained to diagnose and treat subluxations. When he corrects alignment of the vertebrae and restores nerve function, it will help increase movement of the joints, decrease discomfort of muscle and enhance overall health.
ART® Treatment (Active Release Techniques®)
Dr. Park uses an ART® upper extremity protocol to treat an elbow problem.
Overused muscles can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. Scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped, the patient may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
Every ART® session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The ART® provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. These treatment protocols – over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART®. Dr. Park is certified in the following ART® techniques: spine, upper extremity, lower extremity, masters, and complex protocols. As a full-body and master-level certified ART® practitioner, he successfully developed a specialized ART® practice in the SF Bay Area. For the last several years, Dr. Park has treated a variety of patients, from young children to seniors, active runners to bodybuilders, and students to teachers. Dr. Park’s patients found his ART® treatments to be especially effective in treating muscular ligamentous injuries. Patients in various professions have found that his ART® treatments helped them to be active and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Sports Taping and Rehabilitation Exercises
Dr. Park utilizes sports taping with rehab exercise to help coordinate injured muscles and stabilize joints.
Sports taping procedures have been increasingly recognized among athletes and people who enjoy outdoor activities. The taping procedure produces its effect by stretching the skin near injured muscles using tape. When the skin is stretched, it decreases the delivery of pain receptor information to the brain. The tape will remain on your skin for 48 to 72 hours until the next application. Dr. Park will use this procedure to help you coordinate injured muscles and stabilize joints, so you can maintain your level of performance and continue to enjoy activities.
Rehabilitation exercises are important to facilitate the healing process from surgery or injury. Dr. Park studied general rehabilitation and exercise in his doctoral program and also completed an additional seminar in rehabilitation and the prevention of golf injury. Dr. Park provides you with safe exercise and stretching protocols to use at home or at work, not only to help your healing but also to reduce your health risk from future injury.
Spinal Decompression Treatment
Dr. Park utilizes spinal decompression equipment, operated with precision through his knowledge and expertise.
Many people work most of the time every day either seated or standing, without an adequate amount of stretching or rest. When stress and pressure persist on a joint in any part of the body, it may cause inflammation on structures inside, outside, or around the joint. The structures affected by inflammation can be vertebral discs, ligaments, muscles, or any combination of these. Usually the inflammation subsides by itself through rest and proper exercise, but it takes a very long time to return to normal. It is hard these days to think about taking enough of a break or going to exercise regularly in our busy lives.
Persistent inflammation of ligaments and muscles can create scar tissue and decrease one’s range of motion. In addition, the inflamed disc will become deformed and possibly not only intrude into the joint space but also apply pressure against the vertebrae. As this progresses over a period of time, the discs will exert pressure on the nerve that passes through the joint space, and it will become partially or fully pinched. Meanwhile, the vertebrae will be deformed by pressure from the discs and will begin to grow an extra bony part, known medically as an osteophyte. This is known to be a degenerative process.
Park Chiropractic Clinic & Wellness Center has state-of-the-art equipment and utilizes treatment tables with leading-edge technology. The chiropractic treatment tables in the clinic are expertly designed and carefully tested. Through Dr. Park’s expertise, they are used to perform flexion, extension, and horizontal traction (decompression) with the precise speed and angle to meet the patient’s need. During this treatment, the patient’s intervertebral space will increase gradually and muscle and ligament structures will gently stretch. This allows better flow of nutrients and blood to damaged tissues and joints to help decrease the pressure and inflammation. Along with the treatment, undesirable effects will subside and healing will be promoted.
School Sports Physical Exams for Students
Dr. Park provides school sports physical exams for students
Student athletes are required by their schools to have a sports physical exam before trying out for a new sport or beginning a new season. Come to Park Chiropractic Clinic & Wellness Center along with your child and simply bring the school’s documentation and previous medical record, if any. Dr. Park is experienced with the sports physical examination for children and young adolescents. He will perform a complete review of the medical history, check vital signs, perform a physical examination and any other requirement the school requests, so your child can begin or continue to be part of school sports activities.
Digital Static and Dynamic sEMG Evaluation
Because accurate evaluation is key to understanding a patient’s condition, Dr. Park utilizes only the best leading-edge technology.
Dr. Park precisely utilizes the sEMG scan as one of his methods to better determine if your spine, muscle and nervous systems are functioning optimally. The sEMG scan (or Surface Electromyogram) measures the electrical impulses and reads the voltage that the muscles in your spine naturally emit. It functions in the same manner as an EKG for your heart but is even more sensitive. The scan takes as little as 90 seconds and is completely safe, painless and non-invasive. The device does not generate any radiation like X-ray or electrical impulse, and it only measures. It does not stimulate like other devices, so you will not feel any discomfort. It is safe for everyone.
When nerve interference is present, muscles will fire to compensate for this and create an abnormal pattern of muscle firing. This is seen as bars on the graph. In the graphic, the length of the bars is proportional to muscle activity. The longer bars mean more muscle tension. The arrows point in the direction of imbalance, and the colors indicate the level of tension. These readings look at the level of voltage and the patterns of directionality, which allows the doctor to accurately evaluate your condition. (Cited from the MyoVision® website)
Chair Massage Therapy by Massage Therapist
Highly skilled massage therapist at Park Chiropractic Clinic & Wellness Center provides soothing massage therapy.
Muscles in every part of your body work vigorously and continuously to move you throughout the day. When muscles are overused and fail to receive proper care, lactic acid is produced and accumulates in the muscle tissue. Eventually, the body will experience fatigue and begin to feel soreness and achiness from the exhausted muscles.
Chair massage is an effective therapy for reducing discomfort of the body by helping to move out lactic acid from the muscles. You will become relaxed and re-energized as your feelings of achiness are dissipated during a chair massage session by a skilled massage therapist. In addition, you will be surprised at how convenient it is to receive massage therapy in a specially-designed ergonomic chair. You will have no worries about oily residue left on your skin or your hair in disarray. Unlike conventional massage therapy, you will remain comfortably clothed, and the easy entry and exit will fit better with your daily work schedule.
Treat yourself to chair massage therapy today; you and your body will be glad you did.
